Joshua Radin says it so nicely. 'We are ok, we are alright...' And it's true! This transition to Hong Kong seems to get easier daily--and yet, we've been told we will hit a culture shock low in a couple of months where we will hate everything about this place! We will continue to pray for a smooth transition into this time. BUT! For now, I have plenty of pictures to share. Rude, or not, I have taken way to taking some pictures of some of the funny things we have seen walking around HK.
For starters, this was the strangest baby carrier I have EVER seen. It's classic. I could not resist snapping it. The poor kid is exhausted--as he should be, he is in a fabric CAGE! Crazy.
Or how about their obsession with Popeye, Betty Boop, Snoopy, and of course, Hello Kitty. Can we say hello, 80's?!!? But of course, Taylor was all up on that photo op!
Yes, cheese sauce (and just about any other totally awkward sauce) for your nuggets at McD's..
Speaking of McD's...it's TOTALLY out of the question to throw your own trash away. Actually, at any fast food place. They have people hired specifically for this task and they will run over quickly and take it from you so their boss does not think they are not working. How delightful! BUT. The odds of finding a table at McD's at just about ANY time of day is rare. It's quite the demand here!
Ladies! The pedicures....are obviously not the same!! ha! You sit in a recliner...and they use a bucket of warm water--that quickly turns quite chilly throughout the process. You get quite the leg workout by holding your leg up instead of letting gravity help! Nonetheless, I got some quiet time and reading done--plus sipped a mint mocha frap from McD's which is what it's all about. And it was 20 bucks (no tips here). It'll do until we get our China visas and can go for the real cheap ones across the border!
This is something else that's funny. Please take note of my nail technician's name. Yes. They create their own names--perhaps based off of American culture? But we have seen a Paul, Ruby, Peaches, etc. etc. the names are completely odd for anyone, let alone, someone of Asian background. SO FUNNY! I secretly captured this for my memories :)
Now onto the more traditional pictures we have recently captured. This is the ParknShop...it's a main grocery store in town but they have little small outlet stores. This one is right below our apartment which is convenient. Never, ever have we gone in and there has not been a line. It's quick, though. Look closely, you can see someone you know that looks out of place!!
Our first little date alone--a Thai restaurant for some very traditional Pad Thai. I was a happy girl! ANNNND. I love him!
The beautiful harbor view. We were too late for the 8 oclock nightly light show--we'll catch it some time! This view goes on for miles--buildings and more buildings!
Such tourists!
This is the river near our apartment. We have such a pretty neighborhood (if that's what you can call it?) Buildings, water, trees. It's all really nice!
This was at the larger ParknShop. It was grocery shopping day. If you look in the background (or at the panicked face on Taylor) you can see why it's a big deal to go out! SO MANY PEOPLE!
We are so happy!! We can make our traditional homemade pizza! Cheese is 8 US dollars for a small bag--so it won't happen often! But we made it in the skillet on our cook top (stove). All you do is make the pizza like normal...as if you were putting it into the oven and instead, place it in an oiled skillet and put a lid on it. 10 minutes later it should be done! Must be accompanied by red wine ;)
Just another busy night on the MTR (it's not called a subway here--the term subway represents an underground walkway)....they pack themselves in!
Yesterday for work, they took us on a service day. We rode a bus for about 30 minutes and the views were beautiful. Here's one of a pretty bridge!
Well, while I have many more pictures, we are off to a basketball tournament that Taylor is playing in--and then, the beach!
Check back soon for more!

we really enjoyed looking at your wonderful new home town! simply fascinating!
